KIMONO PROJECT
The goal of the Kimono Project is to pass on the features of traditional Japanese kimono fabric and design to future generations. It involves painting on kimono fabric with oil, tempera, and urushi lacquer, which presents a distinctive challenge due to the soft silk texture of the fabric. Through this series of work I revive discarded kimono by up-cycling them into new forms, and tackle themes drawn from current events, symbolism, and pleasure.
